About the Conference

Nexus = Connection linking two or more things

BRINGING COMMON SENSE AND SENSIBLE ENVIROMENTALISM TO NATURAL RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT: A CONSTRUCTIVE WAY FORWARD WITH INDIGENOUS PEOPLES

The event theme is Indigenous Nexus 2023 where the word “Nexus” means to connect or link two or more things/people together. It is an opportunity for Indigenous People, Industry, Business, Government, and Communities to gather in friendship to seek solutions to common barriers while learning about leading-edge opportunities in the natural resources sector. To paraphrase the great Apache Leader, Cochise, it is an opportunity, for all to, “…speak straight so that your words may go like sunlight to our hearts.”

This conference is intended to link thought leaders and decision-makers together from all worlds in the spirit of cooperation and constructive collaboration. This idea is captured in the many Indigenous languages as follows: ndidoo (T’smsyen for “join together”), sayt k’il’im goot (Nisga’a for ”one path, one heart, one mind”), ᑲᓀᓴᐧᒧᐦᑕᕁᑮᑲᐧᔭᐦ kaneswamohtahkkîkwayah (Cree for “joining two things together”), ɬakálʼus (Coast Salish means to “connect”), ohpokohkimaami (Blackfoot for “join up with someone”), maawanji’idiwag (Anishinaabe for “come together to meet”), m̓ṇ úxvʔit (Haíłzaqvla language-Bella Bella area- means “to become one together”), Mamawichiita (Cree for “we all help one another”), way hey (Ayajuthem language means “to work together”), mawiomi (Mikmak for “we gather”), or side neh kii (Gitxsan for “side by side”or nasta gii’ii meaning “together as one”).
